Public Consultations
Two Ferny Grove Station Precinct options are open for formal community consultation between Monday 12 July to Monday 9 August.
State Member for Ferny Grove Geoff Wilson announced today (24 June, 2010) that there is a new option that could involve a tavern as part of the redevelopment of the land around the Ferny Grove Station. Residents will now have the opportunity to have their say on two options for the development of the land around the Ferny Grove Station.
- The first option for the Ferny Grove Station Precinct could involve a mixed-use precinct with a blend of facilities, including options for retail, office space and a new tavern.
- The second option focuses on residential development, providing opportunities for a greater proportion of medium-density dwellings with some supporting retail and commercial space.
- Both options provide for about 400 extra car parks, taking the total car parking offered to a target of approximately 1000.
The two precinct options are available for public comment through a formal community consultation process from Monday 12 July to Monday 9 August.
A community information session will be held from 9am to 1pm on Saturday 17 July at the Ferny Grove Bowls Club, 20 Tramway Street, for people to come and discuss the plans with the project team.
“This is a chance for the people of Ferny Grove and its surrounding suburbs to tell us what they think of these new options for the land around the Ferny Grove railway station,” Mr Wilson said.
“I know how important commuter car parking is to residents and I am pleased the provision for extra parking has been included in these options.”
Mr Wilson said the new option gives the community a real opportunity to keep the tavern.
“I have been lobbying the Transport Department for the best of both worlds,” Mr Wilson said.
“I have lobbied hard for an expanded public transport hub and also room for the re-establishment of the Ferny Grove Tavern.
“The Keperra to Ferny Grove Rail Upgrade is about tackling traffic congestion by providing better transport options, increasing rail capacity on the Ferny Grove line and encouraging people to use more sustainable transport options.”

The Department of Transport and the owners of the Ferny Grove Tavern have reached an agreement on an interim lease so the Tavern can continue trading on the site until 30 January 2011. The property was formally resumed on June 11. “The Department of Transport has also been in negotiations with the owners of the Tavern around an agreement to ensure they have the opportunity to re-establish the tavern on the precinct in the future,” Mr Wilson said.
The detailed design of the railway station upgrade will also be available later in the year for consultation with the local community.
“I’m very happy for anybody in the community to contact me with their thoughts and suggestions regarding these options before full consultation begins on July 12,” Mr Wilson said.
