Important Queensland Public Holiday Changes for 2012
Thanks to legislation passed in State Parliament this week from next year Queenslanders will no longer miss out on public holidays when they fall on the weekend. Following recent consultations and strong public support the legislation swiftly passed state parliament in time for the new year.
The legislation also allows for the shifting of the Queen's Birthday holiday from June to the first Monday in October - a part of the year that is usually light on for public holidays. As a one off for the year of transition in 2012 there will be an additional one-off Queen's Diamond jubilee holiday on the June long weekend.
The final change allows the creation of a two-week school break at Easter by gathering the majority of the student-free days throughout the school year to create the second week break for Easter.
