Funding Boost for St Andrews Catholic School Infrastructure

03, December 2004

The State Government will provide $26,769 to St Andrew’s Catholic School in Ferny Grove to help meet new infrastructure costs.

Member for Ferny Grove Geoff Wilson said the school was among 24 non-state schools to share in over $3.16 million in State Government funding provided under the External Infrastructure Subsidy Scheme.

St Andrew’s Catholic School will receive the funding to contribute to local government sewer and water headworks charges of $53,539.

Mr Wilson said the External Infrastructure Subsidy Scheme assisted new Catholic and Independent schools that are under development or existing schools that are being upgraded.

The funding is used by the schools to meet the costs of external infrastructure projects required by Local Government as part of the development.

“Projects can include water supply, sewerage and drainage services, transport-related infrastructure such as car parking, pick-up and set-down areas and road works, and streetscape and headworks charges,” Mr Wilson said.

“Under the scheme, the State Government provides 50% of the total project costs.

“The remainder of the funding is raised by the school. Local communities go to considerable effort to help with fund-raising, making these projects possible.”

Mr Wilson said the total value of the 24 projects receiving support through the latest External Infrastructure Subsidy Scheme funding came to over $6 million.

“It’s important to the good operation of schools that they have good quality, safe pathways, fences, bikeways, drop-off and pick-up zones and water and sewerage services,” he said.

“The State Government is committed to supporting all schools maintain these standards of facilities and services.”

The distribution of funding under the scheme is recommended by the Queensland Catholic Capital Assistance Authority and the Independent Schools of Queensland Block Grant Authority.
