Five students from Ferny Grove State High School have been chosen to take part in Education Queenslandâs prestigious Musically Outstanding Students (MOST) program, State Member for Ferny Grove Geoff Wilson announced today.
Geoff Wilson said Ashreya Ward and Hannah Wakefield (oboe), Catherine Biesot (cello), Chris Neill (percussion) and Kimberley Pitt (violin) are among 77 gifted music students from Queenslandâs state high schools who will take up the opportunity of a lifetime when they attend MOST 2005 in Brisbane from 12 â 24 June.
âAshreya, Hannah, Catherine, Chris, and Kimberley will participate in an intensive 12-day residential camp where they will have the opportunity to work with some of Australiaâs most respected musicians including eminent conductors, composers, senior tertiary music lecturers and principal players from the Queensland Orchestra,â Geoff Wilson said.
Geoff Wilson said there were more than 280 nominations for MOST this year and Ashreya, Hannah, Catherine, Chris, and Kimberley were selected as musically outstanding students after submitting video auditions.
âThe MOST program was developed to help musically gifted and talented students from Queenslandâs state high schools reach their full potential,â Geoff Wilson said.
âThis program showcases the depth of musical talent in Queensland state high schools and the outstanding success of Education Queenslandâs Instrumental Music Program.
âMOST 2005 will give Ashreya, Hannah, Catherine, Chris, and Kimberley the chance to extend themselves and experience working in a professional-standard ensemble,â Mr Wilson said.
The MOST program will culminate in a Gala Concert at the QPAC Concert Hall on 23 June featuring performances by the MOST Symphonic Wind Ensemble, String Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra and Big Band.
The students will perform a number of challenging, professional-standard works that they have learned and perfected during the program.
