Consultative Committee members, local pharmacist Rod Willis and Ferny Grove resident Patrice Harald at the new community health centre, Keperra.
Queensland Healthâs new community health centre at Keperra took its first steps at becoming a community health centre with the inaugural meeting of a consultative committee established by the Department.
Ms Moira Goodwin, A/Executive Director and Director of Nursing, Community Services and Palliative Care Programs, The Prince Charles Hospital Health Service District welcomed the ten committee members to the Centre.
Members were informed about how, with the State Member for Ferny Groveâs support, an interim committee successfully lobbied the Health Minister to approve the establishment of a permanent committee whose task would be ensuring the voice of the community was heard.
Members were appointed by Queensland Health following a comprehensive selection process.
âThe committee will provide an important forum that encourages community participation in health issues and service planning, as well as ensuring that all sections of the community are represented,â Geoff Wilson said.
âMembers come from very different work and community backgrounds and consequently have a very diverse range of skills which I am sure will contribute to the committeeâs success,â Geoff Wilson said.
âThe Centre will provide a range of existing health care services in the one central location for children, adults and families living in the north west suburbs of Brisbane,â Moira Goodwin said:
âServices to be provided by the Centre will include adult community health, womenâs health, sexual health, child community health, child development unit and child and youth mental health,â Moira Goodwin said.
The State Government contributed $7 million to the refurbishment and extensions to the North West Community Health Centre at the former Keperra Hospital site.
âA modern community health facility guided by input from a consultative committee representing residents in north-west Brisbane will have significant benefit to the local community,â Geoff Wilson said.
The Centre will be officially opened in September 2005. Sign Up for free e-mail updates!
