Mitchelton State High School will receive $20,000 to upgrade its tennis courts for school and community use, State Member for Ferny Grove, Geoff Wilson, announced today.
âThese grant funds â provided jointly by the State Government and the Brisbane City Council â will enable repairs to these courts to be carried out,â Geoff Wilson said.
âThe courts will be resurfaced and re-lined so they can be used for a range of sports including tennis, netball and volleyball. The nets will be replaced, removable posts installed, and the fencing repaired.
âOnce this work is carried out, the school will have a first class facility which can be used by students and the local community.â
Education Minister, Rod Welford, said the funds were being provided through the School Sport and Recreation Facility Upgrade Program.
âThe program enables state schools in the Brisbane City Council area to apply for grants up to $20,000 to upgrade their sporting facilities,â Mr Welford said. âIn this current round of grants, 12 state schools will benefit.
âIn most cases funding is being used for tennis and other multi purpose court upgrades, lighting, shade structures and swimming pool heating.
âThis unique shared funding arrangement demonstrates state and local governmentsâ commitment to work in partnership to build healthy and active communities.â
