Samford trial bus service extended to Highvale

12, December 2005

State Member for Ferny Grove, Geoff Wilson, today announced the TransLink trial of the Samford bus service, route 399, had been extended out to Highvale.

Starting 3 January next year, the service, operated by Brisbane Bus Lines, will transport residents between Highvale and Samford Village to Ferny Grove railway station on two scheduled services in the morning and afternoon.

Geoff Wilson said the service extension was making public transport in the Samford region easier to catch.

"Where the existing service used to pick up passengers from Samford Village only, residents as far out as Highvale will now have the option of catching a bus closer to home," Geoff Wilson said.

"This is a positive extension of the service to residents who previously would have had to travel by car to access public transport.

Geoff Wilson noted that the service will be hail 'n ride from Samford Village westward.

"There will be no fixed bus stops along this part of the route and residents will be asked to hail the service from the roadside," said Geoff Wilson

"To make it easy for residents to estimate pick up times, TransLink has provided indicative arrival times on the new timetable," said Geoff Wilson.

Two morning services will reach Mt Glorious Road (westbound) at the corner of Mt O'Reilly Road at approximately 6.30am and 7.10am and at Showgrounds Drive at 6.33am and 7.13am.

From the intersection of Mt O'Reilly Road and Mt Glorious Road the service will operate in a one way, clockwise direction, turning right into Showgrounds Drive followed by Westwood Drive and leading into Mt O'Reilly Road.

These bus services are scheduled to meet train services leaving Ferny Grove to arrive at Central Station at 7.34am and 8.07am respectively.

"Those residents still keen to catch the bus from Samford Village will still have that option with fixed bus stops still in place," Geoff Wilson said.

"The stops located on Samford Road, near Cash Avenue, will remain the same - however the stop previously located on Main Street has been replaced by inbound and outbound stops on Mt Glorious Road, at the corner of Mary Ring Road," Geoff Wilson said.

The trial, which ends on Thursday 13 April, continues to be part of the TransLink system. Tickets bought on the bus are valid across the rail, bus and ferry network.

TransLink will look at extending the trial following a review of patronage figures in April.
