Christmas has come early for five local organisations who have received funds totalling $112,900 to help them continue their good work and services in the community said State Member for Ferny Grove, Geoff Wilson today.

Geoff Wilson said the Queensland Government’s Gambling Community Benefit Fund had awarded the grants under its latest funding round, providing an important source of funding for hundreds of community groups.

The details of the grant recipients for the December round are as listed:

  • Ferny Districts Cricket Club Inc ($30,000) - contribution towards net complex
  • Westside Sports Club Inc ($30,000) - towards renovation of soccer fields
  • Samford & District Playgroup ($26,385) - refurbish building and equipment
  • Samford Community Kindergarten Inc ($16,515) - upgrade playground
  • Samford Tri Club Inc ($10,000) - towards bikes and equipment

“The grants help a variety of local organisations in the community sector to provide services, leisure activities and opportunities to the community,” Geoff Wilson said.

“I am very pleased the grant recipients will be able to access these funds to purchase items or begin work on community projects.”

The December funding round for the Gambling Community Benefit Fund will distribute just over $8 million to 568 projects across Queensland.

Since its inception in 1994, the Gambling Community Benefit Fund has granted nearly $290 million to over 27,800 Queensland not-for-profit, community based organisations.

Benefits to communities include the improved safety of facilities, training opportunities, better access to services, purchase of new equipment, building upgrades and greater involvement in community activities.
