Firefighters in the Hills district will be taking to the road in a new fire vehicle after the official handover of a new, $500,000 state-of-the-art vehicle today.
The Member for Ferny Grove, Geoff Wilson, handed over the keys in a ceremony at the Arana Hills fire station. Mr Wilson was representing Emergency Services Minister Pat Purcell.
Mr Wilson said the new vehicle would be a tremendous boost for response capability in the region.
âThe vehicle, which is worth $501,705, has a large water-carrying capacity of 1500 litres, as well as on-board foam tanks to allow rapid attack for bushfires and flammable liquid fires. It also has road accident rescue equipment to enable enhanced motor vehicle accident response,â he said.
âThe Beattie Government is committed to providing the Stateâs emergency services personnel with modern equipment and facilities. This financial year the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service will provide $17 million for 31 new or replacement urban firefighting vehicles and 55 new or replacement rural vehicles right across Queensland.
âFirefighters have a vital role in caring for the safety and wellbeing of Queenslanders. Itâs important they have the right equipment to enable them to go on doing the great work they do each day.â
âThe public consistently votes firefighters as one of the most trusted profession in the country. This vote of confidence by community members is testament to the skill and commitment of QFRS firefighters,â Mr Wilson concluded.
