Active Trails Strategy

15, February 2007

The Queensland Government is making another significant investment in outdoor recreation in South East Queensland, with $8.8 million having been earmarked to implement the South East Queensland Regional Recreation Trails Strategy: Active Trails and to develop three regional recreation trails over the next five years.

Two of the new trails will provide for walking, horse riding, cycling and mountain biking, while the third trail will cater for canoeing and kayaking. The three new trails are:

  • the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail
  • the Boonah to Ipswich Trail
  • the Maroochy River Canoe Trail

For more information on the three new trails and the Active Trails Strategy, visit here.

The Active Trails Strategy and the three new trails are part of the proposed broader outdoor recreation framework, the South East Queensland Regional Outdoor Recreation Strategy. Given the broad scope and the possibilities for the future of outdoor recreation in the SEQ region, the Queensland Government has released the South East Queensland Regional Outdoor Recreation Strategy Discussion Paper for public comment. Submissions on the Discussion Paper from stakeholders and the broader community are invited, with the closing date being 30 March 2007.
