Wilson Delivers Car Parking for Ferny Grove Station

Geoff Wilson has announced that additional car parking spaces will be included in the concept design for the $100 million Keperra to Ferny Grove Rail Upgrade project. Community feedback was sought during December 2009 and construction of the project is expected to start mid 2010, with completion due in 2012. The concept plans include additional car parking that will boost parking capacity to about 1,000 spaces.

This upgrade to the commuter car park will improve traffic flows and safety in and around the Ferny Grove station. Geoff has been fighting long and hard for upgrades to car parking at the station.

The re-development includes the purchase of the Ferny Grove Tavern site and the Department of Transport and Main Roads has been in negotiations with the tavern owners. This project is a major initiative to service the current and future needs of Brisbane's rapidly growing north-west suburbs.

The project will involve duplication of 3.2 kilometres of track between Keperra and Ferny Grove stations to increase rail capacity and reliability on the Ferny Grove line. Ferny Grove station will also be upgraded with an improved bus interchange and kiss 'n' ride facility. To encourage sustainable living more bicycle storage facilities will be provided as well as an additional platform, a new station building and improved disability access.

The $100 million project includes $62.8 million for the rail duplication which has been identified in the South East Queensland Infrastructure Plan, with the remaining funds for the station upgrade, car park upgrade and disability requirements.

The project is the final stage of the Ferny Grove rail line duplication to service the current and future needs of Brisbane's northwest suburbs. In 2008, the Bligh Government completed a second track between Mitchelton and Keperra stations, including upgrades to Oxford Park and Grovely stations. The Keperra to Ferny Grove Rail Upgrade is the final stage of this project.
