More go card readers have been installed at busy train stations – including Ferny Grove – to keep pace with the rapidly increasing number of go card users.

Transport Minister Rachel Nolan and Member for Ferny Grove Geoff Wilson said a new reader was now installed in the middle of the platform near the ticketing machine at Ferny Grove station, in addition to the four existing readers each end of the platform.

“The go card continues to surpass all expectations, with the latest data showing it was used on more than 60% trips in the first week of March,” Mr Wilson said. “That’s 2.275 million go card trips taken in one week.”

Mr Wilson said an extra go card reader would make it easier for commuters to touch on or off and keep moving at Ferny Grove train station.

“More and more people are using go cards and we need to ensure that there are more card readers at the busiest stations so customers can touch on and off easily and safely,” Mr Wilson said.

“We’ve installed a batch of readers at stations that need them most – including at Ferny Grove - and will continue to roll out another 30 more across the network in coming months.

“This is particularly good news for commuters wanting to get home and avoid queues to swipe off,” Mr Wilson said.

“In my opinion, public transport must be commuter friendly as possible,” Mr Wilson said.
