More than 100 people attended the information session at the Ferny Grove Bowls Club today (Saturday 24 April) to provide comment on the proposed concept plan for the Keperra to Ferny Grove Upgrade Project.
Minister for Transport Rachel Nolan said she was encouraged by the positive response.
“I would like to thank the many people who took the time out on a Saturday to attend and speak with representatives from the Department of Transport and Main Roads, TransLink and Queensland Rail,” Ms Nolan said.
“The response was very encouraging and the feedback from the community will now be considered as the project moves in to the detailed design phase.”
Member for Ferny Grove Geoff Wilson said residents raised a number of issues relating to the project.
“I was pleased to talk with residents about the issues concerning them. I saw many people filling out detailed feedback forms and I would like to thank everyone for the time and thought they have put in to their comments,” Mr Wilson said.
“A number of people asked whether a new tavern would be part of the redesigned site. The Department of Transport and Main Roads is still in discussions with the tavern owners about alternative options.
“People were informed that any future transport associated development would include a mix of community and commercial uses and could include facilities such as a tavern, retail shops and coffee shops.
“There was widespread understanding of the need to tackle traffic congestion through a major expansion of public transport choices at Ferny Grove.
“If possible, I want the best of both worlds – an expansion of public transport for Ferny Grove and the retention of the tavern on the site in the future.
“I’ll continue to lobby the transport department on these issues.”
Mr Wilson thanked local residents for coming to the information session and having their say.
A newsletter summarizing the issues raised at the community information session will be distributed as soon as possible.
